in light of the recent news that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been found dead after a helicopter crash you might be wondering 'who the hell is this guy and why are so many people celebrating his death??' and i'm here to answer that!

to fully understand what's going on we need to look into Iran's history: when the Iranian revolution in 1979 happened the authoritarian king who was ruling at that time was overthrown, but the ensuing power vacuum lead to the islamic regime seizing power and establishing Iran as an islamic republic

the following years were incredibly cruel to the Iranian people; thousands of people (especially minorities) have been protesting against the strict islamic regime leading to many being jailed, tortured and executed.

and this is where Raisi played a big part: in 1988 he was part of a committee that ordered the execution of thousands of political prisoners who were protesting the islamic regime, earning himself the title of "the butcher of tehran"

do not be fooled by what the state media wants you to believe, the Iranian people are celebrating his death. he was a cruel mass murderer who has destroyed the lives of thousands of people, his death should be used as a time to mourn for all the suffering he has caused, and bring new attention to the political prisoners still being held in Iranian prisions today

because sadly the fight is far from over. many of you have probably heard of the murder of Mahsa Jina Amini back in 2022, causing a new wave of nationwide protests and establishing the "woman, life, freedom" movement. the regime has gotten increasingly cruel in their treatment of the Iranian people, especially women, but the people of Iran are not deterred and keep fighting for a free Iran.

if you want to know how you can help, please keep talking about us. the one thing the regime hates is international attention, and in the past it has been proven that international pressure has stopped the regime from executing various political prisoners. people like Toomaj Salehi are under imminent threat of execution and spreading their names could save their lives. so whether you share social media posts or talk to your family and friends about what is happening in Iran, anything helps 🙏🏼

I just wanted to say, you're such a sweet and thoughtful person for always thinking about other people and trying to brighten their day up a little and I don't think you hear it enough. I'm sure you're a great friend to have in real life, and your friends are really lucky to have you.

But also, I do hope you're taking care of yourself. I don't want to seem too forward, but as a person with a people-pleaser attitude myself, I know that sometimes it feels more like an obligation, a burden and a weight to do it, even if it's for your own friends. But you also can't stop doing it because then they'll assume something is wrong. If all of this isn't very applicable to you, all well and good! I'm glad. But if it does, I just want you to know that I, and by extension everyone else you know, love you for who you are :)

She would text me everyday, sometimes call me during online class even though she knew I was busy, and actually I was okay with it but then

she started making back handed remarks, and acting toxic in general 😂

after a big event where I felt manipulated by her, I lost some of my 'heart' for her and every day listening to her texts felt like a chore and made me feel trapped.

Came to a point where I hated the sound of a text notification because I dreaded if it was her.

Dude, she even got mad at me once because I didn't ask, "how are you?" after she visited my house.

Like, she arrived back to her home after visiting me, right? I get a text message later that day saying

"thanks a lot for asking how I am" (sarcastic)

turns out she had a bad experience on her way back home but like JWEIJWRT be fr man 😃

when I first received that text, my first thought was

"Am I obliged to ask you how you are?"

and I hated her so much in that moment.

(At that point in time, she literally texted me every day and I usually responded cheerfully and kindly even though I had some things against her).

Bro, she's the reason I bought the book, "How to Deal With Difficult People" by Bo Sanchez 😂

I read that book and one advice from that book was to love them from a distance and to distance yourself from them cause you can't truly love a person who hurts you 😄(plus you're just enabling their toxic behavior which isn't helping either of you in the long run - but that's my opinion for another day-)

(inserting these excerpts because it gives me nostalgia looking back at them 😂)

That book helped me decide that I was going to distance myself from her. There were actually several 'ways' that book suggested in dealing with a toxic person. One of them was confrontation and another was gradually distancing (not meeting them if you can help it, etc.)

Me, being the person who hates confrontation at the time naturally went with the less...'scary option.' 😂🤭

I decided to distance myself gradually.

GIRL I KID YOU NOT. I was so anxious at ignoring her texts.

It was hard for me to not respond to her text for even a single day.

Like. Bro. Not responding to a text for a day felt like a milestone.

iirc there was even a time where ignoring her text for an hour felt like an accomplishment.

eventually, after lots of praying, crying, contemplating, hating her secretly that it ate me inside to overlook her annoying remarks (like when she made fun of me for my weight🤣), I eventually confronted her at like 2 am.

I sent her a text explaining why I've grown distant, my honest feelings, and that I wanted to take a break from her as a friend.

I fell asleep. Checked my phone again in the morning. Saw that she replied.

AND BRO. It took me like...a while. just. to. open. her. reply.

I opened it.

She apologized actually and said she understood.

Had a big 'THANK YOU GOD!!' moment. I was celebrating, dancing, screaming inside because I. literally. felt. so. free.

'If I don't reply or seen zone you, I'm either not in the mood or I'm doing something atm. It doesn't mean I hate you or that we have beef. I'll tell you if something's wrong. So don't freak out if I seen zone. It just means I'll reply to your message later '

because I can't stand feeling pressured to respond to a text message right away.

Gentle reminder that very little fandom labor is automated, because I think people forget that a lot.

That blog with a tagging system you love? A person curates those tags by hand.

That rec blog with a great organization scheme and pretty graphics? Someone designed and implemented that organization scheme and made those graphics.

That network that posts a cool variety of stuff? People track down all that variety and queue it by hand, and other people made all the individual pieces.

That post with umpteen links to helpful resources, and information about them? Someone gathered those links, researched the sources, wrote up the information about them.

That graphic about fandom statistics? Someone compiled those statistics, analyzed them, organized them, figured out a useful way to convey the information to others, and made the post.

That event that you think looks neat? Someone wrote the rules, created the blogs and Discords, designed the graphics, did their best to promo the event so it'd succeed.

None of this was done automatically. None of it just appears whole out of the internet ether.

I think everyone realizes that fic writing and fanart creation are work, and at least some folks have got it through their heads that gif creation and graphics and moodboards take effort, and meta is usually respected for the effort that goes into it, at least as far as I've seen, but I feel like a lot of people don't really get how much labor goes into curation, too.

If people are creating resources, curating content, organizing the creations of others, gathering information, and doing other fandom activities that aren't necessarily the direct action of creation, they're doing a lot of fandom labor, and it's often largely unrecognized.

Celebrate fan work!

To folks doing this kind of labor: I see you, and I thank you. You are the backbones of our fandoms and I love you.

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.

Hey fanfiction writers: If no one's ever told you this before, it's not just fanfiction.

It's something you spent hours, days, maybe even months on, pouring your heart out onto a page because you were so full of passion and thoughts about a story or characters, you felt like you were going to explode if you didn't get it out. Maybe you lost sleep because your mind was racing with ideas or you forgot to eat or drink water because you were so focused. Maybe your back aches from being hunched over for so long, unmoving. Maybe you even felt like you were going a little feral because you were so excited about what you were creating, or were frustrated when you got stuck. Either way, you put your heart, mind, soul, and body into making something.

It's okay to want people to read it, and it's okay if you're disappointed that they don't or it doesn't get as much of a reaction as you were hoping for. Humans are social creatures. Sure, we write for ourselves, but we also share because the joy of doing so is just as powerful as the joy of the process. Of having created something.

We all experience that joy and that disappointment, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So it's okay. It's not just fanfiction.
